Join host Rick Steves on a grand tour through Italy's Cities in 7
half-hour TV shows. In Venice, youll drink-in great Renaissance art, cruise the canals, enjoy calamari with the locals and experience a moonlit gondola ride. Venice Day Trips, along with easy side trips to Padova, Vincenza, Verona and Ravenna, Rick pulls on hip boots and settles into the muck of the Venitain Lagoon. Milan and Lake Como we'll explore high fashion, fancy dellis and an amazing opera house. Then a cruise along Lake Como to the village of Varenna at the base of the Alps. Florence shows us Michelangeo's David, a gorgeous cathedral dome and a vespa ride in to the sunset. Rome will revive your interest in history, with visits to Caesars Forum, the Pantheon, St. Peters Basilica and an after-dark stroll down timeless, winding streets. Your Italian adventure wraps up in Naples and Pompeii to dine on pizza where it was invented and a climb up Mount Vesuvius, and of course the amazing ruins of Pompeii.

Sorting
through the monuments of magical Venice, we drink-in the art of Titian, Bellini,
Donatello, and the Doge's Palace. We luxuriate in a venerable caf on St. Mark's
Square, and enjoy calamari with locals in a canal-side pub.

Side-Trips: The Best of Veneto:
Pulling on hip boots,
we settle into the muck of the Venetian lagoon. Back on the mainland, we check
out a chapel restoration in Padova, Palladian-style streets and villas in
Vicenza, romance in Verona, and dazzling mosaics in Ravenna.



Florence: City of Art:
We look into the eyes of
Michelangelo's David, learn tricks for touring the Uffizi art gallery, and climb
the amazing cathedral dome that kicked off the Renaissance. Then we chase the
sunset on a Vespa, and sleep serenely in a converted monastery.


Milan and Lake Como:
In Milan we'll take a peek at Italy's highest Fashion, fanciest delis, grandest cemetary and greatest opera house...And Leonardo's The Last Supper. Then we'll cruise along Lake Como, settling down in the lakeside village of Varenna, where Italy meets the Alps.



Caesar's Rome: Rome welcomes the new millennium spiffed up as
never before. We tour Rome's ancient sights from the Forum and Colosseum to the
glorious Pantheon. Then, after hiking the Appian Way and exploring the
catacombs, we track down the best gelato in Rome.

Baroque, After Dark:
After a pilgrimage to
Michelangelo's Pieta, we climb to the top of St. Peter's Basilica. At the
Borghese Gallery, it's exquisite sculptures by the master of marble, Bernini.
Then we take an after-dark stroll, lacing together Rome's Baroque and bubbly
nightspots.


Naples and Pompeii: Naples is Italy in the extreme. We'll prowl back street fish markets, dodge fast moving Vespas, and dine on pizza where it was invented. We''ll climb to the top of Mount Vesuvius, then wander through the amazing ruins at Pompeii, the Roman town it destroyed.
